Gail C. (Fisher) Cantu

Gail Catherine (Fisher) Cantu, age 89 of Winchester, VA passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

Gail was born on February 4,1936 in Pittsburgh, PA and was a daughter of the late William Fisher and Martha Catherine (Jones) Fisher. In addition to her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her four brothers William, Edward, Howard and Frank (Bud) and two sisters Dorothea and Madge.

Surviving Gail are her husband for over 64 years, Rev. Larry Cantu, daughter Catherine Skowron and husband Joe Skowron of Centreville, Virginia and daughter Beth Bierman and husband James (Chip) Bierman of College Station, Texas; seven grandchildren, Louis Michael, Edward Joseph (wife Emily), Nathan John Charles, Noelle Ashley (husband Dalton), Alaina Gail, Maelyn Joy and Samuel Wilson, and one great granddaughter, Amelia Rose.

Gail graduated from Brentwood High School and then from nursing school as an RN in Pittsburgh, PA. Gail met and married Rev. Larry Michael Cantu in Pittsburgh, PA. Their first church was Grace Lutheran in Petersburg, WV.  In 1967, they moved to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mars, PA and they were there until they moved in 1981 to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Falls Church, VA. In 2000, they retired and moved back to Petersburg, WV to a beautiful home affectionately called the Vacation House.  Because of a recent vacancy at Grace Lutheran Church, however, Larry came out of retirement to be the pastor there for a second time.  Larry and Gail served their church and community faithfully until their second retirement, moving to Winchester, Virginia, in 2017.  They have resided since at The Village at Orchard Ridge, a Lutheran Senior Retirement community.

Gail’s family will be having a Celebration of Life service on Monday, November 3rd, at 10:00 AM at the Chapel at The Village at Orchard Ridge, 400 Clocktower Ridge Drive, Winchester, VA 22603 with Pastor Jeff Lindsay officiating.     

 Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, WV.
