Emory "Sam" W. Berg

Emory Willis “Sam” Berg, age 88 of Maysville, WV, went to his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV.

Sam was born February 25, 1933, in Maysville, WV and was a son of the late Austin John Berg and Rhoda Ellen (Whetzel) Berg.  In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Annabelle (VanMeter) Berg on August 30, 2007; three brothers, Ricky Berg, Darvin Berg and Thurman Berg.

Sam is survived by three daughters, Brenda (Bobby) Armistead of Moorefield, WV; Sharon (Elvin) Heavner of Maysville, WV; Susan (Michael)Thorne of Cabins,  WV; four grandchildren, Cheryl Wolfe, Lisa Barb, Kevin Heavner and Heather Sites; six great-grandchildren, Lance Barb, Sierra Barb, Layne Heavner,Justin Sites, Kaylee Wolfe and  Chloe Sites; six sisters, Helen (Clarence) Leatherman of  Moorefield, WV, Dotty (Charles) Champ of Purgitsville, WV, Beggie (Dayton) Kisamore of Cabins, WV, Annabelle (Forist,Jr.) McDonald of Moorefield,WV, Bonnie (Will) Heavener of Petersburg, WV and Judy (Richard) McIntire of Maysville, WV; two brothers, Sterl Berg of Maysville, WV and Randolph Berg of Elk Garden, WV and several  nieces and nephews.

Sam served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a carpenter and a self-employed concrete finisher. He was a member of Cabins Assembly of God Church.  He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Family will receive friends from 6- 8 PM, Friday, September 10, 2021, at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. 

Funeral service will be 11 AM Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Cabins Assembly of God Church with Rev. Coleman Clark officiating.  Military Graveside service  will be in the Barger Family Cemetery on Jordan Run Road, Maysville, WV by the Grant County Veterans Honor Guard and West Virginia Army Honor Guard.
