Elva M. (Rodgers) Smith

Elva Mae (Rodgers) Smith, age 64 of Fredericksburg, VA and formerly of Petersburg, WV died on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA.

Elva was born on May 2,1960 in Petersburg, WV and was a daughter of the late James William “Billy” Rodgers and Louella (Reel) Rodgers. In addition to her parents, Elva was preceded by one sister, Carolyn (Smith) Haslacker; and grandparents, Rex Rodgers and Norene (Bodkins) Rodgers and John Reel and Lottie (Alt) Reel. 

Elva is survived by her son, Dustin Smith and grandson, Chase Smith; two sisters, Wanda Stump (Butch) of Petersburg, WV, Pam deNiord (Lyman) of Colorado Springs, CO; one brother, John Rodgers of Augusta, WV and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

 Elva was a graduate of Annandale High School. Elva was involved in an automobile accident at the age of 27, which left her as a quadriplegic. Over her lifetime she was determined she would live a normal life as possible confined to a wheelchair. She drove and lived alone taking care of herself until the past year. She was a member of Revival Center, UPC in Fredericksburg, VA. Elva loved her three fur babies, Rambo, the dog and Kiki and Tux, the cats.

 Funeral service will be Monday, July 15, 2024 at 12 Noon in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Borror officiating. Elva’s family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg, WV.
