Dortha (Dottie) Riggleman, age 93 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Dottie was born on May 31, 1931 in Lumberport, WV and was the daughter of the late William Allen White and Helen (Sharps) White.
In addition to her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon K. Riggleman in 2015 and an infant daughter, Jennifer Riggleman, and her favorite uncle Amos Sharps who passed at 101 in Oakland, MD.

Two sons: Timothy K. (Joyce) Riggleman of Petersburg, WV
Danny A. (Julie) Riggleman of Capon Bridge, WV
Five Grandchildren: Tyson (Kelli) Riggleman, Dylan (fiance’ Markia) Riggleman, Kyle (Sarah) Riggleman, Adam Riggleman and Ben Riggleman.
Three great grandsons: Camden Riggleman, Oliver Riggleman, Elijah Riggleman
One great Granddaughter: Reyna Riggleman
Dottie was a graduate of Wallace High School and went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree from Fairmont University. She was also a cheerleader in high school and while attending Fairmont. She moved to Petersburg after graduating from Fairmont and found her future husband Gordon. She was a 4-H Extension agent and went on to teach physical education and health at Petersburg High School for 28 years. During her time teaching she also coached tennis, track, and girls’ basketball. After she retired, she would substitute teach and served on the Grant County Board of Education. She started the first youth summer league tennis program in Grant County. During the summer she loved playing tennis and working for Grant County Parks and Recreation cleaning the parks and waterways around the County. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Petersburg and was a Sunday School teacher and active in the puppet ministry. She loved making crafts, riding her moped, sewing, and her adorable pets with some them being, Pot belly pig (mittens), Skunk (rosebud), Ground hog (woody), and many other exotic reptiles, and dogs and cats. Her home was always filled with the neighborhood kids drinking her iced tea and many would spend the night and were always welcome. She would look forward to playing cards and board games every Saturday night with her friends.
She was loved by many and will be a great loss to Grant County…
At Dottie’s request there will be a Celebration of Life Service on June 29, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church, 112 Virginia Avenue, Petersburg, WV 26847 Anyone that wants to attend will be welcomed. A notice will be placed in the Grant County Press and on Facebook Petersburg Buzz.
