Donnie Carr Obituary

Donnie Ray Carr, age 81, of Maysville, WV  passed away on August 14, 2024. He was surrounded with love by his wife and daughters as he left to be with his heavenly father.

Donnie was born in Cabins, WV and spent a large part of his childhood on Wildcat. He graduated from Petersburg High School in 1963. Donnie was a veteran of the Vietnam war, a pulp wood logger, a farmer, and a 25-year employee of SCM Allied Egry.

With a zest for life, determination in vast amounts, a quick wit, and a mind sharper than folks half his age, Donnie enjoyed life and met his many health challenges with a positive attitude. The word “quit” was not in his vocabulary. Not one to be idle, he was one of the hardest workers you would ever meet. He loved farming, and he was able to continue this passion with the abundant help of a wonderful village of caring friends and family! He enjoyed passing his knowledge about farming on to Billy, Aleisha, Sue, Steve, Jadyn, Bryceson, and Megan, and he loved coming up with new construction and mechanical projects for Jeremy. Whether he was in the hay fields, riding his side-by-side, or checking on his animals, he was often the happiest when he was outside on his land.

While Donnie did love farming, he also was an avid bluegrass music fan, and he especially enjoyed the local band, Maysville Express. He was so excited to have them play for his 80th birthday. Donnie also never met a stranger. He loved to meet new people, and he had many friendships from childhood on. He enjoyed watching girl’s high school and women’s college basketball games. Donnie also appreciated a good meal, surrounded by friends and family, with Thanksgiving being one of his favorites.

Donnie is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Ginny; daughter Misty and husband Tim; daughter Kim; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother Arvella Stonestreet, step-father Leonard Stonestreet, and nephew Steve Kimble.

Funeral service will be on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Cosner and Pastor Bob Spaid officiating.  Donnie's family will receive friends from 12 Noon till time of service at 2.

Interment will be in South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by Grant County Veterans Honor Guard and West Virginia Army Honor Guard.
