Donald "Donnie" W. Harper

Donald William “Donnie” Harper, age 72 of Moorefield, WV went to his Eternal Home on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Moran Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Westernport, MD.

Mr. Harper was born on January 26, 1950 in Cumberland, MD and was the son of the late Warren William Harper and Marguerite Elizabeth (Hott) Harper. 

 Donnie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ellen (Strosnider) Harper; one daughter, Melanie of Richmond, VA and one granddaughter, Marguerite Adeline; several aunts, uncles, cousins, two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

  Donnie graduated from Moorefield High School Class of 1967 and later, Catherman's Business School in Cumberland, MD.  Donnie served in the United States Army. When he returned home, he was a bookkeeper and clerk for his aunt, Kate Coffman at the South Branch Stockyards and he owned and operated  People’s Cash Store in Durgon, WV.  Donnie and his wife were active with the Gideon International in the mid 80’s -90’s and they served as Chaplains for Pilgrim’s Pride in Moorefield, WV for several years. Donnie loved Jesus and served the Lord in ministry at Baker’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Moorefield Assembly of God, Asbury United Methodist Church, Boot Hill Community Church and wherever he was. 

Donnie loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing.  He also enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball. 

Family will receive friends Sunday, April 17, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.

Funeral service will be 11 AM Monday, April 18, 2022 in the chapel of the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastors Dan Sterns and Ron Bowyer officiating.  Interment will be in Olivet Cemetery, Moorefield, WV.

Memorials may be made to charity of the Donor’s choice.
