Daniel Dwane “Danny”Alt, age 54, of Dorcas, WV, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2020 at his home surrounded by family.
He was born February 7, 1966 in Washington, DC and was a son of Delores (Sites) Alt Propst of Dorcas, WV and the late Darl Alt. In addition to his father, Daniel was preceded in death by his son, Devin Lee Alt; an infant brother; maternal grandparents, Leo and Lettie Sites; paternal grandparents, Louie and Della Alt.
Surviving Danny is his wife, Barbara “Bub”(Donaldson) Alt; his mother Delores, and step father, Thomas Propst Jr of Dorcas, WV; son, Derek (Darice) Alt of Arthur, WV; daughter, Danielle (Andrew) Thompson of Dorcas, WV; two grandchildren, Easton Thompson and Kyleigh Thompson; brother, Darren (Joyce) Alt of Dorcas, WV; one sister, Regina Whitmore of Boise, ID and several nieces and nephews.
Danny successfully ran the family business with contracts at the Pentagon and the Naval Department in Washington, DC and the State of West Virginia. For twenty years he was an active firefighter, was chairman of a fair sized nonprofit (EACHS), etc. He concluded his career at American Woodmark where they went above and beyond to aid him during his illness.
None of those things compare to the small group of people he lovingly referred to as his “Peeps.” He was a life member of Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company. He was a member of the board for EACH’s Head Start. He was Baptized in the Southern Baptist Church and was a member of Brake Church of the Brethren.
Family will receive friends Wednesday from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
Funeral service will be Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Craig Howard officiating.
Interment will be in Whispering Winds Cemetery, Dorcas, WV
