Dale Emmanuel “Manuel” Secrist, Sr., age 92, of Lahmansville, WV passed away Friday,
January 31, 2020 at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg, WV.
He was born August 25, 1927 in Forman, West Virginia and was a son of the late Burl Secrist and Deddie (Dettinburn) Secrist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Secrist and infant Burl Junior Secrist. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
“Manuel” is survived by his wife of 68 years, Delores “Tinkle” M. (Porter) Secrist; one daughter, Rev. Deborah L. Shreve and husband Donald of Augusta, WV; one son, Dale E. Secrist, Jr. and wife Susan of Lahmansville, WV; five grandchildren, Derek Shreve, Johna Secrist, Dena Lowe, Aaron Secrist and Danette Richman; twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
“Manuel” worked for Stickley Brothers and Kessel Lumber Company for several years and retired from Fairfax Stone. He was a member of Lahmansville United Methodist Church. He spent a lot of time on his farm on the ridge. He was an avid bird watcher and loved to feed the cardinals. He also loved to hunt and fish.
“Manuel’s” family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
Funeral service will be Monday, February 3, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Lahmansville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Beth Jacobson officiating. Interment will be in Lahmansville Cemetery.
