Curtis "Peanut" Sites Obituary
Curtis Elwood “Peanut” Sites, age 93 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg.
Born on January 19, 1932 in Rough Run, WV, he was a son of the late Oscar Ray Sites and Zola Susan (Crites) Sites. In addition to his parents, Peanut was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Elizabeth (Ours) Sites in 2016; one sister, Norma Lee (Sites) Ours and one brother, Ernest Ray “Sock” Sites. Peanut was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Peanut is survived by one daughter, Betty J. Puffenbarger (Art) of Petersburg, WV, one son, Tony C. Sites (Janie) of Beverly, WV; four grandchildren, Joseph Sites, Jaret Sites, Waylon Roden and Lesle Sites Wickline; five great grandchildren, Shelby Luff, Justin Sites, Bella Sites, Chloe Sites and Wyatt Roden and several nieces and nephews.
Peanut was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He served in the 25th Division and 35th Regiment. During his two years of service, Peanut received the rank of Sergeant. After returning to West Virginia, Peanut was a machine operator and mechanic for Mongold Lumber Company in Elkins, WV for nearly 43 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, watching wildlife and mowing lawns. He was a member of Rough Run Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed spending time with his family and joking with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. All that knew Peanut would say that he never met a stranger.
Peanut’s family will receive friends on Thursday May 22, 2025 from 6 – 8 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.
Funeral service will be on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 11 AM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Lynn Rohrbaugh officiating.
Interment will be in the Ours Family Cemetery, Rough Run, WV with Military Honors by the Grant County Veterans Honor Guard and United States Army Honor Guard.
