Curtis Porter, Sr. Obituary

                                   

      Curtis Elwood Porter Sr., 85, of Petersburg, WV, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020 after a long battle with cancer.

      Born April 30, 1935 in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Edward Clarence Porter and Ollie Vernon (Weese) Porter.  He was also preceded in death by one brother, four sisters, a son, Curtis Elwood Porter Jr. and a grandson, Curtis Elwood Porter III.

      Curtis is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Roberta (Southerly) Porter, one son, Larry (Angela) Porter, two daughters, Brenda (Mac) Alt and Lisa (David) Moyers along with one sister, Marge Porter and one brother, Paul Porter, five grandsons; Ryan (Shana) Porter, Kyle (Shelaina) Porter, Tyler (Olivia) Porter, Jeff Moyers (Stephanie Rexrode), Adam (Courtney) Moyers, one granddaughter; Jessica (Tyler) Martier, five great grandsons; Brayden Porter, Brenton Porter, Noah Whetzel, A.J. Moyers, Christopher Moyers, four great granddaughters; Lakeyn Moyers, Isabella Moyers, Caroline Moyers and Kylee Porter, two daughter in laws; Linda Porter and Charlene Porter.

     Curtis was a member of First Baptist Church, Petersburg WV and was employed at the Tannery, Allied Egry, Southern States and retired from Hester Industry in 1999. After his retirement he enjoyed tinkering with motors, taking things apart and putting them back together.

    Curtis enjoyed going on trips with family and having the family around for holidays and cookouts. He bowled for many years in different leagues at Golden Lanes with his wife and enjoyed many bowling trips throughout the years.

 Curtis’s pride and joy were his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He would always light up whenever he was able to see them, even in his last days at the nursing home and he left them with many beautiful memories.

 Graveside services will be private with Pastor Rick Bergdoll officiating in Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg, WV.

  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Petersburg First Baptist Church, 112 Virginia Avenue, Petersburg, WV  26847 or the American Cancer Society.
