Clara Nell (Whetzel) Ours

Clara Nell (Whetzel) Ours, age 92, of Cabins, WV passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Grant Memorial Hospital.

Clara Nell was born on October 26, 1929 in Smoke Hole, WV and was a daughter of the late Albert Milton Whetzel and Martha Jane (Alt) Whetzel. 

In addition to her parents, Clara Nell was preceded in death by her husband, Justin “Ike” Ours on May 24, 2019; one son, Andy Ours; Daughter-in-law, Marlene Ours; six sisters, Twin Cloda Kisamore, Arbutus Kesner, Ruth Engle, Rhoda Berg, Anna Bennett and infant Geneva Whetzel; six brothers, Albert Whetzel Jr., Ora Whetzel, Orville Whetzel, Charles Whetzel, Vernon Whetzel and Curtis Whetzel;  Clara Nell was the last surviving member of her immediate family of 13.

Clara Nell is survived by one daughter, Karen “Sue” (Lee) Carr of Cabins, WV, two sons, Dale (Mary) Ours of Cabins, WV and Allen (Phyllis) Ours of Cabins, WV; one granddaughter, Becky Ours O’Haver and husband Skip; three grandsons, Roger Ours, Andrew Ours, and Joe Ours wife Nicole; four great grandchildren, Emily, John, Liam Ours and Josh Weasenforth; two great-great grandsons, Jaxson Weasenforth and Branson Ours; eleven step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; a very close friend, Betty Barr.

Mrs. Ours worked in the laundry department at Grant Memorial Hospital and retired after 30 plus years.  She later worked for the former Sites cottages.  She loved canning, sewing, making apple butter, spending time with family.  She was a member of Cabins Assembly of God Church and North Fork Ruritan Club.

Family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. 

Funeral service will be Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 11 AM in the chapel of the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Rev. Colman and Colleen Clark officiating. 

Interment will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery.
