Charles "Buck" Vance, 97, of Mount Airy, passed from this life on Monday, October 17, 2022 at Bethania Home Care.
He was the husband of 63 years to the late Virginia (Hash) Vance who preceded Charles in death in 2019. Also he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Vance Parsons and two brothers, David and Eddie Vance and one half brother Donald Vance.
Charles was born on December 23, 1924, in Petersburg, WV, he was the son of Wilbur and Ruby Vance. Mr. Vance was a decorated World War II Army Veteran, serving in Okinawa and Korea. Charles held a lifetime membership at the American Legion, Gold Star Post #191, Mt. Airy. He was self-employed and was the owner/operator of Vance Construction. As a founding member of Fredericktowne Baptist Church in Walkersville, Charles was passionate about imparting his faith to future generations. He enjoyed singing and spending time with his family and children.
He is survived by his two daughters: Lori L. Belke and husband Bill and Charlene V. Boone; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren as well as 2 great-great grandchildren; three half brothers, Virgil (Susan) Vance of Jane Lew, WV and Michael (Myra) Vance of Petersburg, WV and Jack (Joyce) Vance of Winchester, VA and one half sister, Barbara (Bruce) Riggleman of Petersburg, WV. Charles is also survived by numerous Vance family cousins and Ketterman family cousins.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 20, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Boulevard, Mt. Airy.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Elkhorn Chapel, 2424 Elkhorn Road, Dorcas, WV 26847. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be at the Ketterman Family Cemetery, Dorcas, WV with Grant County and West Virginia Honor Guard.
