Carl Russell “Buzz” Cooper, Sr. age 89, of Cabins, WV passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at J. W. Ruby Medical Center in Morgantown, WV.
Carl was born on February 10, 1934 in Onego, WV and was a son of the late Russell Morral Cooper and Kate (Hedrick) Cooper.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his step-mother, Mary (Teter) Cooper; two brothers, Daniel Cooper and Randy Teter; four sisters, Othetta Conrad, Geneva Champ, Ruthle Smith and Virginia Rose Rexrode; son-in-law, Arlyn Haslacker.
Carl is survived by his wife of 67 years, Peggy (Harman) Cooper; one daughter, Rebecca Haslacker of Petersburg, WV; one son, Carl Russell “Rusty” Cooper, Jr. (Tina) of Cabins,
WV; Seven grandchildren, Garrick Haslacker, Aleshia Lily (Austin), Vanessa Harper (David), David Cooper (Nathan), Quentin Cooper (Chelsea), Dalton Cooper and Greg Wells (Megan); ten great grandchildren; three sisters, JoAnn Watts of Seneca Rocks, WV, Catherine George (Junior) of Baltimore, MD and Betty Gordon (Donald) of Circleville, WV; two brothers, Herbert Cooper (Dorothy) of Baltimore, MD and Freddie Cooper (Patricia) of Seneca Rocks, WV; numerous nieces and nephews.
Carl worked for General Motors in Baltimore for 17 years. He and his family moved back to West Virginia in 1968 and was employed by West Virginia Department of Highways until his retirement in 1996. Carl was a lifelong farmer and loved his horses and was an avid hunter. Carl coached Little League for 19 years. He attended Riverside Church and Cornerstone Family Fellowship.
Carl’s family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 – 8 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
A Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor P. J. Landis officiating.
Interment will be in Lahmansville Cemetery.
