C. Wayne Ours Obituary

                               

On Sunday, August 16th, 2020, Carroll Wayne Ours of Petersburg, WV went home to Jesus, at the age of 79 years. 

Wayne was born on June 18, 1941 in Dorcas, WV to Evers T. Ours and Jane Elizabeth “Janie” (Nelson) Ours.  He received his Bachelor’s of Science from Bridgewater College in Harrisonburg, Va.  Then went on to University of Illinois Chicago for a Masters of Science in Chemistry.

While in Chicago, he attended Douglas Park Church of the Brethren.  He met and soon married Bonnie Ann Lein and they went on to have three children; Greg Ours, Marsha Noble, and Amanda Barger. Wayne and Bonnie were married for 56 years this June 2020.

On September 1, 1966 he started a position at Abbott Labs in North Chicago, Illinois, as a chemist and worked for 31 years before retiring.  As a chemist, Wayne developed an important patent in the chemical industry that allowed medications to work better through a Dopamine pathway, along with other noted pharmaceutical patents. Wayne was also a regular member of the Gurnee Community Church in Gurnee, IL and was a member of the Moose Club.

Through the years Wayne served the Lord in many ways.  He helped out his brother and sister- in-laws with “Hands of Service for the Lord” in Mexico and helped with Teen Challenge in Florida.  While retired, he worked as a chaplain for Gideons International and served the local food pantry.  He was a member of Brake Church of the Brethren in Petersburg, WV.

Wayne was preceded in death by both his parents, Evers and Janie Ours.  He is survived by his siblings; Evers T. Ours, Jr, Leda Kite (Judy), Darlene Berg, and Bonnie Lou Moyers.  His various grandchildren; Anndrea Ours, Joseph Ours (Kayla Ours), Trenton Noble, Brandon Noble, Serena Noble, Jonah Barger, Mariah Barger, and his great-grandchild; David Ours.

Funeral service will be Tuesday 11:00 AM, August 18, 2020, at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Craig Howard officiating.  Family will receive friends from 10 AM till time of service. Interment will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery.

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, all individuals entering the funeral home will be required to maintain social distance and wear face coverings at all times.
