Brenda Brewer Obituary

 

Brenda Yvonne Turner Brewer, age 76 of Petersburg, WV passed away Wednesday evening, April 27, 2022 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was a daughter of the late Otho Turner and Nellie Borror Turner. 

Brenda was born on June 26, 1945 in Petersburg, WV. She was a 1963 graduate of Petersburg High School and  attended Shepherd College and was a graduate of Davis and Elkins College with a degree in Nursing. 

Preceded in death by a son, Zachary Ian Brewer and a granddaughter Saige Baker-Brewer, two brothers David D. Turner and O. Dwayne Turner and two sisters Shelby Turner Alt and Marsha Turner Lahman. 

Surviving are one son Joshua Adam Brewer and two grandsons, Dylan Gage Brewer and Brady Ian Brewer, three sisters, Blondena Turner of Petersburg, Sarah “Sandy” (Doug) Wille of Oak Hill, VA and Rosalyn “Margie” (Dave) Judy of Upper Tract, WV., and three brothers Randall (Linda) Turner, Kelly (Debbie) Turner and Gregory Turner of Petersburg, WV, two sisters-in-law Darlene Hesse Turner and Marcia Marshall Turner, two brothers-in-law Dennis Alt and Terry Lahman, 6 Nieces and 11 nephews, 23 great nieces and nephews and 7 great-great nieces and nephews. 

Brenda was an active member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, in Petersburg where she served on the PPR Committee, a Trustee, and as a Membership Secretary. 

After working for the C&P Telephone Co in Arlington, VA for 10 years, Brenda returned to Petersburg and started working for Head Start. She worked at Grant Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse (RN), as a Nurse Manager over D and E Wings, as a Utilization Review Nurse, and as an Infection Control Nurse. She also worked as a part-time RN at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center and at the Davis Street Group Home. After retirement, she continued as an RN at GMH as an ER Triage Nurse.

 Brenda’s hobbies were traveling, reading, gardening and watching cooking shows.

Brenda’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the Commission on Aging Caregivers Linda Turner and Erma Koontz and to a very special friend and neighbor Shirley Ebarb and a close friend Margaret Dayton.  Also, a very special thanks to Brenda's nephew, Jeffrey Turner, for always being there for her day or night.  When she called, he was always there to help. Jeff checked on Brenda every morning and every evening.  He was very special to her and she was very special to him.  They shared a special bond. 

Family will receive friends Friday 4 - 7 pm at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 30, 2022, at St. Johns United Methodist Church, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Webb.   Interment in Turner Family Cemetery, Petersburg.
