Bonnie C. (Yokum) Smith

  Bonnie Catherine (Yokum) Smith, age 91 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at her home.

 Bonnie was born on March 3, 1932 in Petersburg, WV and was the daughter of the late Lester Yokum and Edna Mae (McUlty) Yokum.  In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Dayton R. Smith October 13, 2011; grandson, Devin Lee Alt  August 4, 2002 and one brother, Harlan Yokum  August 31, 2023.

Bonnie is survived by one daughter, Terri L. Kimble (Ricky) of Maysville, WV; two grandchildren, Derek Alt ( Darice)of Petersburg, WV and Danielle Thompson (Andrew) of Dorcas, WV two great grandchildren, Easton Thompson and Kyleigh Thompson; one brother, Eulis Yokum (Beverly) of Petersburg, WV; sister-in-law, Linda Yokum of Morgantown, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Bonnie was Salutatorian for the Class of 1950 at Petersburg High School. She attended Potomac State College and Shepherd College and taught school for two years. Bonnie was bookkeeper for Clines Furniture in Petersburg for several years.  She was a member of Landes Ruritan Club and Bethel Church.    

 Family will receive friends Friday, October 13, 2023  from 5 – 8 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

 Funeral service will be Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home  with Pastor Brian Henson and Pastor Greg Rotruck officiating.

 Interment will be in Lahmansville Cemetery.
