Bobby Whetzel Obituary

Bobby Ray Whetzel, 64 of Moorefield passed away Wednesday, April 7th at the Winchester Medical Center in Virginia.  He was the son of the late John S. Kuykendall of Dumpling Run and Vernie I. (Kesner) Whetzel of Moorefield.

Bobby was born on March 27, 1957 in Cumberland, MD.  He was a 1978 graduate of Moorefield High School even though, he lived in Lost River for a period.  He was a certified Mason and worked in the DC area but missed his home roots of Moorefield.  He returned to the area and began working at Rockingham Poultry where he remained until today.

He leaves behind his loving wife Missy (Hoy) Whetzel and three daughters:  Jennifer R. Whetzel (Derek Crites), Morgan P. Whetzel and Madison H. Whetzel.  Three granddaughters: McKenna, Sadie and Karli Crites of Maysville.  He was preceded in death by his first granddaughter Derika Shae Crites.

He comes from a large family and is survived by two brothers Tony Crossland (Karen) of Moorefield and Orville Whetzel (Freda) of Stafford, VA.  Surviving are four sisters:  Kathy Parsons (Jim) of Fisher, Helen Baker of Moorefield, Betty Carroll (Brian) of Montgomery, and Madeline Fox of Moorefield.  He had many nieces, nephews and cousins he loved dearly.

He never met a stranger and touched many lives near and far.  He was a ball advocate and loved sports! He played sports in high school and softball as an adult, traveling all over.  He traded in his ball glove and began coaching little league.  He has coached various boys’ and girls’ teams in basketball, baseball and softball.  His involvement with sports made him well known over a few generations of sports enthusiasts.

He loved kids.  He was a Hardy County 4-H Volunteer of the Mill Island Club and chaperoned many events for the Petersburg FFA.  His stories and memories will live on in the lives of the youth he touched!

He attended Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church in Moorefield where his family were members.
