Betty M. (Combs) Thorne

Betty Maxine (Combs) Thorne, age 73 of Petersburg, WV passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at her home.

Betty was born on March 8, 1952 in Harrisonburg, VA and was a daughter of the late Floyd Branson Combs and Lona Belle (Funkhouser) Combs. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Leland “Lel” Thorne in 2018 and an infant brother.

Betty is survived by two sons, Rodney W. “Bub” Thorne and wife Cindy Kay of Petersburg, WV and Bradley F. “Duke” Thorne and wife Katrina of Baker, WV and one daughter, Angie Goldizen and husband Nathan of Maysville, WV; ten grandchildren and several great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and her dog Tink.

Betty was a devoted wife and mother. She worked at Hanover Shoes and later at the Petersburg Laundry Mat. Betty’s passion was taking care of her family and the farm. She was a member of North Mill Creek Baptist Church. Betty’s faith was in her Lord and Savior.

Family will receive friends on Friday, January 2, 2026 from 11 AM till 1:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

Funeral service will begin at 1 PM in the chapel with her son, Pastor Brad Thorne officiating. 

Interment will be in Thorne Family Cemetery.
