Arleta Nell Helmick, age 82 of Petersburg, WV passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 28, 1941 in Rough Run, WV and was a daughter of the late Glenn Clover Helmick and Elsie Virginia (Reel) Helmick.
In addition to her parents, Arleta was preceded in death by one son, Jeff “Meat” Helmick; two sisters, Cleta Helmick and Dorothy Phillips and two brothers, Stanley Helmick and Paul Helmick.
Arleta is survived by:
one son - Craig Helmick and wife, Linda of Petersburg, WV
one daughter -Melissa Cooper of Petersburg, WV
Six grandchildren – Kathy (Chris) Vance, “Sam” (Jeremiah) Mayle, Ashley (Gary) Canterbury, Tasha (Jason) Bergdoll, Ian Williams and Jeffrey (Devon) Helmick.

Significant other, Carl VanMeter of Petersburg, WV
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Arleta was a graduate of Petersburg High School class of 1959. She was a clerk at Thompson’s Market and worked at Hanover Shoe for 32 years and 10 years at Grant Memorial Hospital where she retired.
Arleta enjoyed spending time with family and friends and taking care of her animals. She loved to crochet, cook and garden.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg with Pastor Ray Church officiating. Arleta’s family will receive friends from 11 till time of service.
Interment will be in Lahmansville Cemetery.
