Alma Marie Borror Kimble Williams, age 78 of Petersburg, WV went home with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Grant Memorial Hospital after a short, but fierce battle with leukemia.
Alma was born August 8th, 1943 in Alexandria, VA to the late Rumsey Borror and Mary Borror Stonestreet.
She was a graduate of Petersburg High School in 1961, and she moved with her husband Kenneth P. Kimble, (married 1961) to Baltimore, MD where he worked for Bethlehem Steel and later General Motors.
Alma built her career around serving others, including working as the dietary supervisor for Church Home care facility and was a devoted mom to her three daughters, Kris, Karen, and Kim.
In 1993, Alma and Ken moved back to Petersburg, WV, their hometown, to be with their families.
When Ken passed away shortly after in 1995, Alma’s family moved to WV to be with her. She met her second husband David through mutual Ruritan friends and the pair married in 1997.
In addition to her parents, Alma was preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita Mullenax and Wanda Stump, one brother Rick Stonestreet, and one infant brother, her first husband of 34 years, Kenneth P. Kimble, and one daughter Karen (Kimble) Stark.
Alma is survived by her second husband of nearly 25 years, David J. Williams, two daughters, Kristi Poland (Steve), and Kimberly Blankenship (Eric) of Petersburg, WV, and one son-in-law, Darius Stark. Six granddaughters, Amanda Blankenship, Emily Stark, and Rachel Stark (Jordan Snell), of Petersburg, WV, Jessica Brosius (Frank) of North Carolina, Maggie Clovis of Cross Junction, VA, and Tesia McGuire. Three grandsons, Bentley and Karson Blankenship, and Matt Clovis. Five great-grandchildren, Graysen Ball, Michael Brosius, Etheny Brosius, Zoey Williams, and Rowan Brosius.
She is also survived by one brother, Warren Paul Borror (Frieda), two sisters, Betty Jean Kesner, and Sandy Riggleman (Slick). And by her step-children Jenny Clovis (Bret), Melvin Williams (Pamela), and Davy Williams (Susan), multiple brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, adopted grandchildren, dear friends, and other cherished loved ones.
Alma was a force, she was a bright, genuine, and fiery spirit who loved intensely and made an impression on everyone who knew her. Her first and deepest love was for her family, including all her brothers and sisters, to whom she was not just a sibling to, but a deep friend and confidante. She was the proud matriarch of her family, serving as mom, grandma, and great-grandma for over 30 years, through two blessed marriages. She loved being a grandma, and it was the joy of her life to help raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren, including those she “adopted” along the way. Alma had unique and special relationships with every person she met and loved in her life. She was a devoted friend to all.
Alma also remained dedicated to her community for many years as a steadfast volunteer and officer at many organizations including Ruritan National, the GMH Auxiliary, and the Grant County Arts Council. She was a faithful blood donor, donating at least 13 gallons in her lifetime. She was an active member of her Petersburg High School Class of ‘61 Alumni group and also enjoyed serving as an election poll worker in Grant County for as long as she was able. She also had a bit of a flair for the dramatic, apparent in her love of theater, serving multiple (major and minor) roles in church plays and West Virginia Theater East productions over the years. Alma was devoted to multiple church families over her life that helped shape her faith including Brake Church of the Brethren, Maysville Bible Brethren Church, and most recently, her home church, Gordon Chapel, where she enjoyed helping to make hard tack-candy during the holidays.
Though in the last two years of her life, having battled COVID-19, long Covid symptoms, and then later recently diagnosed with a very aggressive form of terminal acute myeloid leukemia, Alma never let her health conditions limit her zest for life or dampen her spirit. She loved her Lord deeply and personally, and had no fear of death, only concerned about leaving her loved ones. It is an understatement to say that she will be missed by all that knew her, and her loss is very keenly and deeply felt.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and other staff at Mon General Hospital, Grant Memorial Hospital, and Rockingham Memorial Hospital, for their loving and special care and support of our beloved sister, mom, and grandma during a very difficult time.
At Alma’s wishes, she is to be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held Saturday July 16, 2022 at 11am at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
