Bruce R. Teter

Captain Bruce Robert Teter, age 86, of Petersburg, WV died Monday, June 12, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA.
He was born April 15, 1931 in Pendleton County, WV and was a son of the late Zola Teter and Ella (Long) Teter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hansel Teter and an infant brother and one sister, Velma Crites.

Mr. Teter graduated from Circleville High School. In 1956 he graduated from Davis & Elkins College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He also graduated from Texas Maritime Institute. He was a United States Army Veteran of Korean War. He served 28 years in the United States Merchant Marine and retired as Captain on February 1, 1995.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 43 years, Diana (Borror) Teter; one son, Matthew B. (Jessica) Teter of Petersburg, WV; one daughter, Malissa D. Teter of Maysville, WV; one step daughter, Kathy (Mark) Walters of Petersburg, WV; one step son, Douglas Hedrick of Petersburg, WV; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister, LouAnn Smith of Onego, WV; three brothers, Kenneth Teter of Riverton, WV, Ward Teter of Onego, WV and Jerry Teter of Bruceton Mill, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Thursday, June 15, 2017, at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg from 11 a.m. -- 1 p.m.
Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Rev. Charles "Dusty" Twigg officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Borror Family Cemeter y, Kyler Bryce Lane, Petersburg, WV with military rites by the Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Petersburg High School Scholarship Fund, 89 Riverview Drive, Petersburg, WV 26847.
