Barbara C. Ertel

Barbara Carol Ertel, age 66, of Petersburg, WV passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV.
She was born June 6, 1951 in Conneaut, Ohio and was a daughter of the late John William Halter and Martha Pauline (York) Halter.

Barbara graduated from The Ohio State University and was a full time teacher in Conneaut, Ohio for nine years. She and her husband moved to Petersburg in 1998 and was a substitute teacher for Grant and Hardy County Schools for 20 years. She was a member of Living Hope Baptist Church in Petersburg and was a North American Missionary with the Southern Baptist Convention for 35 years. She volunteered every Thursday at the Petersburg Elementary School Library. She loved life and adored her grandchildren. She will always be remembered by her loving personality, her joyous laugh and sweet smile.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 35 years, Don E. Ertel; two daughters, Bonnie (Joseph) Crites of Petersburg, WV and Laura (Daniel) Wardzella of Hinesville, GA; son, Nathan (Sonya) Ertel of Petersburg, WV; six grandchildren, Annika, Micah, Madyson, Blaize, Niko and Hanson; two sisters, Sandy Ryan and Peggy (Grant) Bennett, both of Conneaut, Ohio; one brother, Bill (Sharon) Halter of De Graff, Ohio.

In accordance with Barbara's wishes, her body will be cremated. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Old Fields Baptist Church, 5406 US Highway 220 North, Old Fields, WV 26845 with her brother, Pastor Bill Halter officiating.
