Anne Snell Kopple, 83, died Wednesday June 20, 2018 at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.
Born August 31, 1934 she was the daughter of Ralph Snell and Dorothy Snell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Edmond Snell, Joseph Michael Snell and Jeffrey Snell.
Anne is survived by her husband of 62 years, Henry Kopple, two sisters, Paige Snell Alexander and Patricia Northrop Snell, both of Petersburg. Anne had four children Amy Kopple (Maine), Rachel Martin (Petersburg), Mark Kopple (Lahmansville) and Jody Kopple (Massachusetts). Seven grandchildren live scattered across the country, from Seattle to St. Louis, Philadelphia to Maine, to Winchester and Lahmansville. A great-grandson lives in the Winchester area.
Anne graduated from Petersburg High School, and then undertook nurses training at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. While there, she met her future husband who was a patient, that old story of patient-nurse bonding. They married in 1956 and lived in the Philadelphia/Swarthmore area for thirty years. While raising their children, Anne undertook a journey in early childhood education work that ended with being the director of the Trinity Cooperative Day Nursery in Swarthmore, PA and a degree from Temple University. In 1985, Anne and Hank took early retirement and moved to Lahmansville to a farm that she had inherited from her father. She loved her life on the farm, helping Mark make hay and feeding the cattle every morning, quilting, weaving and gardening. She was active with the Lahmansville CEOs, the Patterson Creek Ruritans, the Grant County Democratic Party, the Grant County Farmer's Market and the Grant County Summer Arts Program. But, her special joy was gardening.
At Anne's request, she was cremated through the services of Schaeffer Funeral Home. A private family memorial was held in Lahmansville, as the family was already gathered for a granddaughter's wedding.
Those wishing to honor Anne may make donations to the Sadie Kopple-Dorothy Snell Petersburg High School Scholarship Fund sent to Josh Alexander, 627 Point Dr. Petersburg, WV 26847.
