Oscar Vernon Keplinger, age 84, of Maysville, WV passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. He was born July 15, 1934 in Maysville, WV and was the son of the late Oscar Blaine Keplinger and Mamie (Park) Keplinger. In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by five sisters, Lurene Bridgen, Verna Dell Rupert, Maxine Feaster, Rhea Smith and Mildred Feaster.
Mr. Keplinger was a lifelong farmer and was owner and operator of Keplinger Lime Company Inc. for 43 years. In 1964 he won District Conservation Farmer of the year and was honored at the National Association Meeting in Portland, Oregon. He served as Grant County Commissioner from 1973 -1979 during which time Governor Arch Moore presented Grant County the First County Ambulance Service. He also was instrumental in providing public water throughout the county and building the new courthouse.
He was an avid hunter and bagged his first Boone and Crockett bear at the age of 72.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was a generous and kind person. At the age of 68 he beat the “heck” out of cancer. He was a member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church.
Vernon is survived by his wife of 65 years, Karen (Nelson) Keplinger whom he married on August 28, 1953; two sons, Gregory V. (Libby) Keplinger of Maysville, WV and Kevin N .Keplinger (fiancé Maria Clark) of Mount Storm, WV; two daughters, Lynn E. (John Whited) Keplinger of Cary, NC and Lori K. (Norman) Kuykendall of Petersburg, WV; seven grandchildren, Nathan Keplinger, Bryer Keplinger, Aaron Keplinger, Mariel Keplinger Tichnell, Daryl Keplinger, Cameron Carr and Leah Carr; two step granddaughters, Whitney Wilfong and Kinsey Wilfong. eight great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Feaster of Cumberland, MD and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Tuesday 5-8 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 11 AM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Bergdoll officiating. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery, Maysville, WV.
