Rev. Bruce Cosner

Rev. Bruce H.  Cosner, known as “Pap”, age 80, of Petersburg, WV went to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at his residence.

Rev. Cosner was born September 30, 1938 in Hartmansville, WV and was a son of the late Guy Herman Cosner and Virgie Jane (Puffenbarger) Cosner.  In addition to his parents, Rev. Cosner was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Clara Belle (Landis) Cosner in 2008; four sisters, Hilda Kuhn Snyder,  Martha Myers,  Alice Hipp and Zetta Massey; and two brothers, Richard Cosner and Thomas Cosner. 

Rev. Cosner is survived by two daughters, The Rev. Barbara L. Sisson and husband Rev. Allen Sisson of Petersburg, WV and Tonya L. Nesslerodt and husband Mike Nesslerodt of Petersburg, WV; three grandchildren, Monica R. Shirk  and husband Gary Shirk, Jr., Dr. Kendra L. Thorne and Kelson D.W. Thorne and two great grandchildren, Joshua M. Shirk and Abigail E. Shirk; three sisters, Clellie Paugh of Mt. Storm, WV, Belvia Lewis of Corinth, WV and Mildred Rexrode of Swanton, MD; three brothers, Lawrence W. Cosner of Lock Lynn, MD, Gary L. Cosner of New Creek, WV and Russell G. Cosner of McKinney, TX  and several nieces and nephews

Rev. Cosner was an ordained minister of the Church of God.  He Pastored his first church  in Cumberland, MD.  Later he was appointed Pastor of the Brushy Run Church of God and has faithfully served there the past 53 years.  He holds the State Record for pastoring the same church for 53 years.  He also was an operating room technician at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg  for 37 years. 

Rev. Cosner graduated from Bayard High School in 1958 and graduated from Zion Bible Institute in Rhode Island in 1961. 

Family will receive friends on Friday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 9:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

Funeral service will be Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Brushy Run Church of God, Windy Hill Road, Rt 220 South, Upper Tract, WV 26866 with Bishop Wayne Wicker, the Rev. Samuel Sponaugle and Bishop Daniel Hampton officiating.  Burial will be in Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville, WV.
