Raymond Elwood “Hun” Delawder, age 80, of Maysville, WV passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. He was born August 31, 1938 in Petersburg, WV and was a son of the late Raymond Ashby Delawder and Cora (Zirk) Delawder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Delawder and one sister, Margie Mallow.
Raymond served in the United States Army during the Korean War. While serving in Germany he was first place winner in the Invitational Skydiving Meet at Bad Toelz. He was represented the Victory Parachute Club, 24th Infantry Division. He was a member of the American Legion Post 78 of Petersburg, WV. He was a 55 year member of IBEW Local 70. He loved the outdoors hunting, fishing and gardening.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathryn “Kitty” (Michael) Delawder; one son, Jeffery A. Delawder and wife Stacy of Maysville, WV; one daughter, Lori Statts of Charleston, WV; four grandchildren, Daniel Lambert, Raymond R. J. Delawder, Destinee Statts and Wyatt Statts; one great grandson, Kingston Statts; two brothers, Joe Delawder of Winchester, VA and Gerald Delawder of Petersburg, WV; five sisters, Nancy Hogbin of Petersburg, WV, Pat Nesselrodt of Petersburg, WV, Sue Iman of Petersburg, WV, Janet Berg of Petersburg, WV and Linda Adamson of Maysville, WV; several nieces and nephews including Ashby Delawder.
Family will receive friends Wednesday from 11 a.m. till 1:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
Funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 8, 2019, with Daryl Dunsmore officiating. Burial will be in Lahmansville Cemetery with military honors by the Petersburg VFW Post 6454 and West Virginia Army Honor Guard.
