James Edward “Pete” Patch known as “The Honey Man” age 91, of Maysville, WV passed away Friday, October 4, 2019 at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg, WV.
He was born March 19, 1928 in Petersburg, WV and was the son of the late Robert Lee and Eva Patch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Marvin Patch, Richard “Dick” Patch, Cecil Patch and Bucky Patch; two sisters, Mary Ann Patch and Edith Patch.
Mr. Patch is survived by his wife of 73 years, Mary Helene (Foster) Patch; two daughters, Sheila (Steve) VanMeter of Petersburg, WV and Lucinda Patch of Buckhannon, WV; four sons, Thomas (Judy) Patch of Mozer, WV, John Patch of Gloucester, VA, Jim (Brenda) Patch of Salem, WV and Patrick (Yvonne) Patch of Gloucester, VA; Eleven grandchildren including J.R. (Alicia) VanMeter, Jamie (Jillian) VanMeter, William (Amy) Patch and thirteen great grandchildren.
Mr. Patch retired from the United States Air Force after 21 years as Master Sergeant. He was a member of Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454 and American Legion Post 78. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Petersburg. After moving back to Petersburg, the community knew “Pete” mostly for his love of bee keeping.
Family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Daniel Warntz officiating.
Burial will be in the Sites Cemetery on Elkhorn Road, Dorcas, WV with Military Honors by the Petersburg VFW Post 6454 and Andrews Air Force Base Honor Guard.
