Delmar Alt Obituary

Delmar Joseph Alt, age 86, of Petersburg, WV went peacefully to be with his Lord on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, VA.

He was born December 3, 1932 in Landes, WV and was a son of the late Henry Arthur Alt and Bessie Goldie (Marteney) Alt.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Denver Alt and William Alt; two half - brothers, Eldon Alt and Emory Alt; one sister, Pearl Barr Breakiron and half- sister, Arvella Kimble.

Delmar was an Army veteran of the Korean War.  In early years, he did plaster and drywalling work for the late Dan Mouse, Russell Hedrick Sr. and Gerald Bosley.  Then he was self- employed by Alt & Alt Construction until retirement.  Delmar was a faithful member and deacon at the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren on Bismarck Road at Mt. Storm, WV.  He was a member of the Landes Ruritan Club.  He was a life member of the Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454 and American Legion Post 78. He also was a member of the Farm Bureau.

Delmar is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Frances (Cosner) Alt; one daughter, Tammy Hamilton and husband Joe of Deep Run, NC; two grandsons E. J. Hoffman, Desert Pehowski and granddaughter, Amanda Jacobs and husband Jamie two great grandchildren Waylon and Wyatt Jacobs; one sister, Mary Brill of Petersburg, WV; half brother, Earl Alt of Petersburg, WV; sister-in-law, Edna Alt of Petersburg, WV and several nieces and nephews.  

Friends will be received from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Additional viewing will be on Sunday from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren.

A funeral service will be Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren with the Rev. John E. Walker officiating.  Burial will be in the Mt. Storm Cemetery at Mt. Storm, WV with military honors by the Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454 and U.S. Army Honor Guard.
