Catherine "Katie" (George) Kesner

Verda Catherine “Katie” Kesner, age 95 of Petersburg, WV passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019 in Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

She was born December 22, 1924 in Smoke Hole, West Virginia, a daughter of the late  Lester Glen George and  Zura Ethel (Alt) George.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gleason Coolidge “Jake” Kesner in 1988; two daughters, Carol Ann Kesner and Dianne Lee Kesner in 1968; an infant son, Kenneth Dale Kesner in 1957; son-in-law, Wayne Clark in 2009;  three brothers;   one sister;  and half - brother and half- sister.

“Katie” is survived by six daughters, Helen Clark of Upper Tract, WV, Donna (Larry) Sullivan of Petersburg, WV, Sara (Bill) Ours of Petersburg, WV; Sharon (John) Brennan of Petersburg, WV; Judy (Matt) Lough of Petersburg, WV and Debbie (Jeff) Cosner of Petersburg, WV; one son, Jack Kesner of Petersburg, WV; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren and one step great grandson; two half -brothers, Raymond George and Charles George both of Upper Tract, WV;  five half-sisters, Ethel Davis of Keyser, WV, Mary Helmick of Petersburg, WV, Linda Kile, Becky Kile and Joy Lantz all of Upper Tract, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews.

“Katie” enjoyed taking her walks and gardening.  She was known for her flowers on Water Street in Petersburg.  She retired from Joan Curtis Manufacturing.  She was a member of Hedrick Chapel United Methodist Church. 

Family will receive friends Monday, December 30, 2019 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. 

Funeral service will be Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Hakes and Matt Lough officiating.  Burial will follow in the Kesner Family Cemetery Rough Run, WV.
