Velma Mae (Champ) Kesner, age 80 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024 at her home. Velma was born on June 19, 1943 in Petersburg, WV and was a daughter of the late John Henry Champ and Delphia Mae (Kimble) Champ.
In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Samuel Kesner in 1988; an infant daughter, Olivia Jane Kesner and an infant brother, Gary Champ.
Velma is survived by one daughter, Tricia Ann Kesner and one son, Trent Anthony Kesner, both of Petersburg, WV.; three brothers, James V. Champ of Portland, Oregon, Elmer L. (Kathleen) Champ of Petersburg, WV and George A. (Brenda) Champ of Petersburg, WV and several nieces and nephews.
Velma was a 1962 graduate of Petersburg High School. She was custodian for the former Potomac Valley Bank in Petersburg until 1996. She attended South Branch Career and Technical Center in Petersburg. Velma also was a dietary aide at Grant Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Petersburg Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -Day Saints.
Funeral service will be Monday, March 18, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Bishop James D. Kimble officiating. Velma’s family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, WV.
