Randall Christensen Obituary

US Navy CTOCM (SW) Randall Scott Christensen, Sr. age 67, of Petersburg, West Virginia, entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on March 22, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. He died from complications stemming from urothelial cancer and chronic kidney disease.

Randy was born August 25, 1956 in Layton, Utah. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Wayne Christensen, Sr., his mother, Karen Marie Christensen, and his sister, Laurie Ann Christensen.

Randy is survived by his wife, Betty Carolyn Christensen (Ne`Bankston).  Randy and Betty were High School sweethearts and were married for nearly 50 years.  He is also survived by his children Michelle L. Belcher and Randall S. Christensen Jr.  Randy's extended family includes son-in-law Sidney Belcher, daughter in-law Jamie Christensen, grandsons US Army Staff SGT Kyle Phipps, Jacob Phipps, Matthew Belcher and Randall Scott Christensen III (Scottie); granddaughters Destiny and Isabella Christensen, and great-grand-son Luke Phipps.  Randy is also survived by his brother, Don Christensen and his wife Dorothy, and his sister Dawn Marie Green.

Randy was a part of an extended family of proud and dedicated military veterans. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1974 at the age of 18 and retired CTO Master Chief in 1994.   He continued his service to our country as a contractor for the Army for another 20 years. Randy held Top Secret and SCI clearances throughout his military career.  He served in many duty locations around the world including Afghanistan and Iraq.  He retired a second time and began a third career with Summit Bank in Moorefield, WV.

In 2007, Randy and Betty escaped the “big city” and moved to the peace and quiet of Petersburg near the Monongahela National Forest.  Randy's passion was to serve his church family and his community.  The Lord led him to the First Baptist Church where he served, along with Betty, for many years as a Celebrate Recovery leader. He also operated and maintained the church computer systems.  Additionally, he cooked and served meals and was always on hand to help out anywhere he was needed.  Randy was a quiet but hands-on disciple of our Lord and Savior.

For the past several years, Randy was with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) where the best medical teams in the country researched and developed new cancer treatments to help extend and improve the quality of one's life; therefore, Randy's wishes were to donate his body to NIH for cancer research.  Even in his death, Randy wanted to help others. A memorial service with full military honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard and Grant County Veterans Honor Guard will take place at the First Baptist Church, 112 Virginia Ave. in Petersburg, WV on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 3 PM with Pastors Shannon Earle, Frank Ketterman and Rick Bergdoll.
