Betty Lou (Crites) Cooper, age 83 of Scottsburg, VA passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Centra General Hospital in Lynchburg, VA.
Betty Lou was born on September 9, 1940 in Petersburg, WV and was a daughter of the late James Melvin Crites and Hazel May (Simmons) Crites. In addition to her parents, Betty Lou was preceded in death by one sister, Donna Jean Reel.
Betty Lou is survived by two sons, John Warren Cooper of Colonial Heights, VA and Daniel Robert Cooper and wife Kristen of Moseley, VA; three grandchildren, John Robert Cooper, Ewen Daniel Cooper and Daniel Graham Cooper; one brother, James Melvin Crites, Jr. and wife Betty of Martinsburg, WV and four nephews and one niece.
Betty Lou was born and raised in Petersburg, WV. Later during her childhood her parents moved to Maryland. In 1958 Betty Lou graduated from Sykesville High School. She married Johnny Ray Cooper and they moved to Dinwiddie County, VA. Later in life, Betty Lou moved to Scottsburg, VA where she became a cattle farmer and was actively engaged as a cattlewoman throughout Virginia until 2022.
Betty Lou’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from Noon till 1 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. A graveside service will be at 1:30 PM at South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg, WV with Pastor Pat Pittsnogle.
