Vanda M. Sions

Mrs. Vanda Mary Sions, age 92, of Petersburg, WV passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Grant Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 26, 1922 in Cumberland, MD and was the daughter of the late Ugo Meconi and Maria (Stefani) Meconi.
Mrs. Sions graduated from St. Peters & Pauls High School in Cumberland, MD. She was a member of Grove Street United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Woman and Church Women United. She was a member of the Petersburg Chapter 146 Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Sions married Cread D. Sions on June 8, 1952 who preceded her in death on December 12, 1990. She was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Meconi Clites.

After her marriage to Mr. Sions, the couple lived in Ireland where Mr. Sions was an exchange teacher. In their thirteen months in Ireland, they visited thirteen countries.
She enjoyed taking care of her family and volunteering at the church, especially preparing communion. She enjoyed reading her Kindle, working word search puzzles, watching Christmas movies on Hallmark and playing with Munchkin. She was known to many as Nonni, which means grandmother in Italian.

Mrs. Sions is survived by her daughter, Alice Ann (Marshall) Guyon of Petersburg, WV; her granddaughter, Cassandra (Joe) Poling of Oakland, MD; step son, Cread Browning (Jeanette) Sions of Cabins, WV; and two step grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ronald Clites of Cumberland, MD and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive family and friends Tuesday 2 -4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Grove Street United Methodist Church with Rev. William R. Brown and Rev Richard L. Longbon officiating. Interment will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville, WV.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grove Street United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 4 Myrtle Avenue, Petersburg, WV 26847 or Hurst Hospitality House, 1830 Amherst Street, Winchester, VA 22601. (Checks may be made payable to WMC/Hurst Hospitality House).
