Rebecca E. Whetzel

Rebecca Elizabeth (Crites) Whetzel, age 70, of Petersburg died Monday at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA.
She was born January 12, 1944 in Durgon, WV and was a daughter of the late William S. and Ruth V. (Borror) Crites.

In addition to her parents, Rebecca was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard C. Thorne on January 12, 1985 and her second husband, Herman Lee Whetzel Sr. on May 27, 2012; son, Randall Thorne on June 1, 1971; one brother, Joseph Crites on Sept. 19, , 2014; one sister, Linda Crites.

Rebecca was a homemaker aide for the Hardy County Commission on Aging. She was a member of the Lighthouse Community Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Brenda (Bruce) George of Fisher, WV, Patty (James) Ralston of Williamstown, WV and Tammy (Mike) Wratchford of Moorefield, WV. eight grandchildren, Curtis George, Coty George, Shayna Schwendeman, Stephanie Mills, James Ralston, Tiffany Longwell, Stephen Mills and Anthony Mills; two step grandchildren, Courtney and Ryan Wratchford; five great grandchildren; six sisters, Laura (Gary) Leatherman of Petersburg, WV, Virginia Nidiffer of Hartsville, Ohio, Ann (Raymond) Alt of Inwood, WV, Shirley (Larry) Miller of Bealton, VA, Sharon (Richard) Borror of Front Royal, VA and Nancy (Joseph) Gimenez of Summersville, SC; five brothers, Paul (Barbara) Crites, David Crites, Donnie Crites and Ronnie (Anna) Crites, all of Moorefield, WV; and Stanley (Sheila) Crites of Cremora, VA. Numberous nieces and nephews also survive.

Family will receive friends Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be Thursday 11 a.m. (Jan. 1, 2015) at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastors Russell and Lucy Webster. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
