Merl Ours Obituary
Merl G. Ours, age 84, of Scherr, WV passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.
He was born May 23, 1932 in Cabins, WV and was the son of the late Ocie C. Ours and Minnie F. (Moyers) Ours.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, J. C. Ours and three brothers, Eston Ours, Orlando Ours and Ocie Ours.
Mr. Ours was a lifelong farmer. He retired from Dominion Power in Mt. Storm, WV. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of VFW Post 15050, Charleston, WV.
Mr. Ours is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth (Ketterman) Ours; 5 sons, John (Karen) Ours of Seneca Rocks, WV, Ricky (Jody) Ours of Scherr, WV, Jerry (Melanie) Ours of Maysville, WV, Mark (Sherry) Ours of Harpers Ferry, WV and Matt (Cary) Ours of Scherr, WV; one daughter, Tammy Owens (Jim) of Shepherdstown, WV; 13 grandchildren, Heather (Chris) Quick, Malarie Ours, Samantha Owens, Zachary Ours, Sarah (Anthony) Cervi, Jessi Ours, Ryan Ours, Elizabeth Ours, Michael Ours, Macee Ours, Jarod (Jessica) Kile, Nick (Sierra) Kile and Virginia Wallen; 11 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, John J. Ours of Cabins, WV and Clyde Ours of Riverton, WV; several brother and sister-in-laws; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
Funeral service will be Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Daryl Dunsmore and Pastor Bob Spaid officiating. Interment will be in the Maysville Cemetery with military rites by the Petersburg VFW Post 6454 and WV Army Honor Guard.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to West Virginia Chapter Alzheimer's Association, 1602 2nd Avenue, Charleston, WV 25387.
