Herman W. Alt

Herman William Alt, age 88, of Upper Tract, WV passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016.
He was born February 1, 1928 in Smoke Hole, WV and was the son of the late Warnie Otis Alt and Mabel Virginia (Kimble) Alt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Warnie Wilkie "Buddy" Alt and Edward Alt; two sisters, Dorothy Alt and Julia Schell; four brother-in-laws, Olin Schell, Vincent Davis, Kermit Stepp and Galen Botkin.

Mr. Alt was a lifelong farmer and worked in construction. He served in the United States Army and received the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Herman is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anna Lee (Thorn) Alt, one son, Trent Alt and wife Sue of Upper Tract, WV; two daughters, Teresa Mowery and husband Tom of Upper Tract, WV and Danita Alt of Harrisonburg, VA; seven grandchildren, Tiffany (Justin) Madron, Lindsey (Brian) Norrod, Logan (Shelby) Mowery, Brooke Alt, Madison Mowery, Kelsey Alt and Lukas Alt; two great grandchildren, Mason Mowery and Emmett Norrod; five sisters, Juanita (Lester) Kesner of Upper Tract, WV, Zella Stepp of Deerfield, OH, Virginia Davis of Alexandria, OH, Arlene Botkin of Moyers, WV and Annabelle (Donnie) Kuykendall of Petersburg, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the South Mill Creek Church of the Brethren with Pastor Randy Ours and Rev. Stanley Kile officiating. Interment will follow in the Kline Cemetery with military honors by the Pendleton County Veteran Honor Guard.
