Gordon Riggleman Obituary
Gordon Kenneth Riggleman, age 82, of 11 Trenton Street, Petersburg, WV passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Martinsburg Veterans Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV.
He was born July 7, 1932 in Dorcas, WV and was a son of the late Andrew J. Riggleman and Dora (Kite) Riggleman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jennifer Riggleman and one brother, Hetz Riggleman.
Mr. Riggleman was a car salesman for Ours Chevrolet and was an inspector for the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War and served on the U S S Leyte. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 78, VFW Post 6454 and the Disabled American Veterans.
Gordon's community service was instrumental for obtaining funds to build the Petersburg City Pool and acquiring the Disabled American Veteran Monument, which is located at the Grant County Courthouse.
He was a member of the Petersburg First Baptist Church and attended the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dortha "Dottie" (White) Riggleman, two sons, Danny (Julie) Riggleman of Capon Bridge, WV and Tim ( Joyce) Riggleman of Petersburg, WV five grandchildren, Tyson (Kelli) Riggleman, Dylan Riggleman, Kyle Riggleman, Adam Riggleman and Ben Riggleman and one great grandson, Camden Riggleman; three sisters, Arlena Kimble of Petersburg, WV, Jessie Mae Crites of Ridgeley, WV and Genevieve Riggleman of Cumberland, MD; one brother, Marcelle (Carolyn "Tootie") Riggleman of Stephen City, VA and several nieces and nephews.
As per Mr. Riggleman's request, his body has been cremated. A military memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Calvin S. Redman Sr. officiating. The veteran organizations of Grant County will conduct military honors at the service. Inurnment will be private in the Sites Cemetery on Elkhorn Road, Dorcas, WV.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be to the Charity of Choice.
