Elizabeth Jo "Betty" (Sherman) Berrett, age 90, of 27 Liberty Court, Petersburg, WV passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 in Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.
She was born January 20, 1925 in Moorefield, WV and was the daughter of the late Brownley H. Sherman and Ethel (Southerly) Sherman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter T. Berrett Sr. on September 26, 1986; one daughter, Karen Elizabeth Berrett; three brothers, Allen F. Sherman, Lawrence B. Sherman and Daniel R. Sherman.
After Mrs. Berrett graduated from Moorefield High School she went to work in the Pentagon Cipher Department during World War II where she met her husband of 40 years, Walter Berrett. Following the war he joined the National Park Service. For the next 30 years, they lived and worked in various National Parks throughout the United States.
In 1979 they returned to West Virginia for his retirement. Mrs. Berrett began her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Grant Memorial Hospital and after she retired she was a volunteer for the hospital. She was a member of Grant Memorial Hospital Auxilary and Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Moorefield, WV. She also was a member of the North Fork C.E.O.S. Homemakers Club.
Mrs. Berrett is survived by three sons, William H. (Valerie) Berrett of Ludington, MI, R. Steven (Karen) Berrett of Cottonwood, AZ and W. Thomas (Cristina Goldizen) Berrett of Lahmansville, WV; one daughter, Susan ( Ernie) Tasaki of Richmond, CA; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmy F. (Anna Mae) Sherman of Milam, WV and Ronald O. (Shirley) Sherman of Moorefield, WV and two sisters, Helen Coppe of Moorefield, WV and Martha Lee Hartman of Petersburg, WV.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.
Funeral service will be Sunday, November 15, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Moorefield, WV with Rev. Steve Haptonstahl officiating.
Interment will be in the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield, WV.
