Catherine Phares Obituary
Catherine Louise (VanMeter) Phares, age 77, of Petersburg, WV passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Grant County Nursing Home.
She was born August 10, 1937 in Petersburg, WV and was a daughter of the late Garfield Lincoln VanMeter and Elizabeth Virginia (Mongold) VanMeter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert L. Phares, Sr. on September 23, 1991; five sisters, Infant Virginia Lee Cook, Betty Jane Cook Whetzel, Bonnie Kaye VanMeter Baldwin, Sharon Jean VanMeter Crites and Karen June VanMeter Whetzel.
Mrs. Phares graduated from Petersburg High School in 1956. She retired from American Woodmark Corp. in Moorefield and was a member of the Petersburg Church of God.
Surviving are 4 daughters, Kathy L. (Jerry) Delawder of Petersburg, WV, Marcia L. (Donnie) Wratchford of Petersburg, WV, Robin D. (Troy) Crites of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Cheryl E. (Kenneth) Sherman of Old Fields, WV; 3 sons, Herbert L. "Herbie" Phares Jr. of Petersburg, WV, Eric T. (Cindy) Phares of Petersburg,WV and Mark L. (Michelle) Phares of Moorefield, WV; 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, Shawn Pugh III and one great grandchild expected in February; 3 sisters, Lucy Mae VanMeter Calhoun of Upper Tract, WV; Elizabeth "Libby" (Delmer) Judy of Petersburg, WV and Linda Darlene VanMeter Ritchie of Harrisonburg, VA and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Saturday from 6 -8 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
Funeral services will be Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Bishop Roy D. Sharp officiating.
Burial will be in the Maysville Cemetery in Maysville, WV.
