Barth Sites Obituary

Barth Monroe Sites, age 94, of Petersburg, WV passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg.
He was born March 13, 1922 in Petersburg, WV and was the son of the late Dennis F. Sites and Stella F. (Riggleman) Sites.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Loraine (Smith) Sites on June 19, 1998; two brothers, Glenn Sites and Max Sites and two sisters, Fostie Smith and Mable Eskridge. Mr. Sites was the last member of his immediate family.

Mr. Sites was a United States Army Veteran of World War II serving from 1942 - 1946. He served State Side on the West Coast on Anti-Air Craft and later during the war served with the 529th Field Artillery Battalion in France and Germany on heavy artillery.

He was a retired member of the Teamsters Union Local 453. He worked pipeline and construction all over the US during his career. He was an avid trapper and outdoorsman and a member of the WV and National Trappers Association. A Lifetime member of the Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454 and member of American Legion Post 78 of Petersburg. He was a self taught historian of local and civil war history of which he loved to share his knowledge.

Mr. Sites is survived by two sons, Barth M. Sites Jr. and wife, Bonnie of Chesterfield, VA; Boyd F. Sites and wife, Ruby of Petersburg, WV; one daughter Susan L. Kimble and husband Randy of Petersburg, WV; four grandchildren, three step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; two step great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, July 20, 2016, from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home. Funeral services on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Longbon officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg with military honors by the VFW Post 6454 and West Virginia Army Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center, 127 Early Avenue, Petersburg, WV 26847.
