Anna Catherine “Maw” Miller, age 75, of Fisher, WV, died Monday, November 17, 2008 at her residence.
She was born on July 31, 1933 in Fisher, WV and was the daughter of the late Homer C. Crites and Alice Rebecca (Reel) Crites.
Mrs. Miller retired from Hester’s Industry Inc. after 25 years. She was a member of the Rig Assembly of God Church.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 1 p.m. (Nov. 20th) at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Rev. Wade Armentrout and Rev. Joseph Eversole officiating.
Burial will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville, WV.

Sam Grapes
November 14, 2008

Sam Grapes, age 99, of Petersburg, WV died Friday, November 14, 2008 at the Grant Memorial Hospital.
He was born February 14, 1909 in Moorefield, WV and was the son of the late Isaac Newton Grapes and Hester Ann (Wilson) Grapes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Catherine (Bennett) Grapes on April 14, 1984; two sons, infant Ronnie Grapes and Floyd Grapes; two infant daughters, Sylvia Grapes and Bonnie Grapes; one step daughter, Ruby Virginia Burns; two grandchildren, Steven Burns and Kevin Grapes; one brother, Walter Grapes; and one sister, Freda Wilson. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Mr. Grapes retired from Westvaco Paper Company in Luke, Maryland in 1974. He was Brethren by faith.

Onita Jean Long, age 56, of Maysville, WV died Monday, November 10, 2008 at Grant Memorial Hospital.
She was born February 25, 1952 in Grant County, WV and was the daughter of the late Charles G. Heavener and Annabelle (Zirk) Heavener.

Onita graduated from Petersburg High School in 1971.

Betty H. Simmons
November 9, 2008

Betty H. Simmons, age 74 of Rough Run, WV died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, VA.
She was born on September 26, 1934 in Moorefield, WV and was the daughter of the late Clarence Hedrick and Ethel (Heavener) Hedrick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James Hedrick, Arthur Hedrick, and Raymond Hedrick; three sisters, Marie Harter, Mable Wolfe and Nellie Spangler; two half brothers, Ted Hinkle and Arlin Hedrick.
Mrs. Simmons was a cook at the Dorcas Elementary School for 25 years. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Petersburg, WV.

James G. McGuinness
November 8, 2008

James Grant McGuinness, age 72, of Maysville, WV died Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Greenry Rehabilitation Center in Canonsburg, PA.
He was born July 27, 1936 in Upper Tract, WV and was the son of William Oga McGuinness and Etta Olive (Alt) McGuinness.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie J. (Rohrbaugh) McGuinness, Aug.14, 2003; one son, Patrick James McGuinness in 2004; two brothers: Melvin and Arthur McGuinness and three sisters: Evelyn Kimble and infants Juanita and Viola McGuinness.

Mr. McGuinness was owner of McGuinness Store in Jordan Run, WV from 1960-1986. He was a poultry farmer and worked for Allegheny Dimension.
He was a member of Jordan Run Union Church and North Fork Ruritan Club.

November 7, 2008

Lila Deborah Young, age 87 of Petersburg, WV, died Friday, November 7, 2008 at the Grant County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Young was born on May 17, 1921 in Cumberland, MD, and was the daughter of the late Alonzo Edwin Moore and Edna May (Brant) Moore.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth K. Young on December 5, 2003, one brother, Andrew Moore, and three sisters, Lenora Bohrer, Evelyn Bollman, and Margaret Bittner.

She served in the U.S. Army and had worked at the Newton D. Baker Veterans Hospital in Martinsburg, WV. She was a member of the Potomac Valley Baptist Church.

Carl A. Yokum
November 6, 2008

Carl Adam Yokum, age 92, of Seneca Rocks, WV died Thursday, November 6, 2008 at his home.
He was born September 10, 1916 at Seneca Rocks, WV and was the son of the late Eston Yokum and Cynthia Elizabeth (Judy) Yokum.
He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by one son, Charles Jackson Yokum.

Mr. Yokum was co-owner of Yokum’s Vacationland, Seneca Rocks, WV for over 70 years. He was a lifelong farmer and retired from Columbia Gas Company in Seneca Rocks.
He served on the Pendleton County Board of Education in 1950’s and also served as the fire warden in Pendleton County for 45 years. He was previously co-owner of Elkins Stockyard in Elkins, WV and was a member of the Seneca Rocks Presbyterian Church.

Brenda Sue (Ault) Freyer, age 55, of Conowingo, MD and formerly of Petersburg, WV died Sunday, November 2, 2008 at the home of her son, Kevin Freyer in Conowingo, MD.

She was born November 30, 1952 in Petersburg, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Raymond Ault and Alice Katherine (Snyder) Ault

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Elmer L. Ault.
